Pleasant Dental Care is proud to offer same-day crowns! Our office is equipped with the technology needed to make crowns right in our own lab. This can save you time and the costs of additional visits. We will advise you on whether you are eligible for same-day crowns.
What is a same-day crown?
A crown is a customized cosmetic restoration used to improve a tooth’s shape or to strengthen a tooth. In a single office visit, we can scan and measure your mouth for the crown you need, make your crown, and cement it in place before you leave.
How do you make same-day crowns?
To make same-day crowns, we use various components of CEREC technology. These devices employ CAD/CAM software. During a single office visit, they allow us to take a painless, customized scan of your teeth; design your crown; mill the crown according to the specifications of your scan; and heat it to its crystallization point so that it becomes rock-hard. It is then ready for placement in your mouth.
How much time would I save by getting a same-day crown?
The same-day crown process lasts approximately two hours, and at the end of your visit you will leave our office with your new crown in place.
The traditional process for crowns typically involves two visits, each about 1.5 hours long. At the first of these visits, we use putty to take an impression of your teeth, and then place a temporary crown in your mouth. From the impression we have taken, we make a model of your teeth and send it to an outside dental lab. The outside lab takes about three weeks to make your new crown and send it back to us. When you return for your second visit, we remove your temporary crown and cement your new, permanent crown in place.
Is there any difference between the appearance of same-day crowns and those made in an outside lab?
No, there is no difference. The crowns we make in our office are just as attractive and sturdy as those made by outside labs.
Can all patients who need crowns get same-day crowns?
Whenever possible, we are happy to help our patients save time and costs with our same-day crown process. However, same-day crowns may not be possible for some patients with complex cases, who may need to schedule additional visits to complete their crown placement process.
